Newspaper article: Why JWs Don't Celebrate Easter
by Sugar Shane insaw this article in the google news.
it seems like the comments section is being overrun by jw apologists.
would be nice if some of us leveled the playing field.

Commenting on news items like the above is a good way to reach non-JWs who might otherwise think the dubs are an eccentric, but harmless little 'denomination.' It might save them from getting involved in such an organization to begin with...unless they just happen across this forum. -

Saw this article in the Google news. It seems like the comments section is being overrun by JW apologists. Would be nice if some of us leveled the playing field. Can anyone post a link to the Watchtower article on how we shouldn't get 'all wrapped up' in worrying about pagan origins? I think it was the article based on questions from readers, concerning pinatas.
Anyway...here's the Easter article:
Ready? Commence fire!!

Back in the day, I was more into the Ramones & Joan Jett, yet I still thought THESE guys were pretty cool. Liked their style: -

"Ones"
by Joe Grundy in(i never was a dub).. this is something which has intrigued me for a while.
i don't know whether it's dub-speak, or us-speak.. it's the use of the word 'ones' as in 'interested ones', 'worldly ones', 'disfellowshipped ones' and so on and so on.. in the 'normal world' we would probably use the word 'people'.. thoughts?.

What always got me was their use of the term 'heart condition.' For example: "We need to be mindful of our heart condition towards Jehovah." Really?? Sounds like someone should call an ambulance!
I'd always found it to mean some kind of heart related medical problem, NOT a reference to 'where the heart lies' emotionally. At first, I thought it was just the way this elder talked...but then I heard it from other people, when I visited my wife's KH. Maybe it's in print like this too, I dunno.
Also...'worldly.' To me, it had always meant someone who is well traveled, or informed about the world. Visit JW-land and it has a WHOLE new meaning.

this was in australia, but the khs i've seen (in the us) are designed so that you'd have to almost intentionally want to ram a building to cause this kind of damage.

Wonder if she was a disillusioned JW, who finally had it with all the changes & false promises, or perhaps got DF'd? Anyone in Oz know anything about this?

Can I pick up a New World Translation from the JW London head office?
by Camperdown9 ini'm an anglican and not a jehovahs witness.
what i dislike about lots of church congregations is their readiness to make unpleasant and unhelpful comments about other christian groups.
recently someone in a church tried to tell me a little about the views of jehovahs witnesses.

Umm, Camperdown. Do you watch the news often? Here's a clip from the US last year:
I suggest you tread carefully with the Witnesses. There are hundreds of more links like the one above. Just do a simple search.
Regarding the book, "What does the Bible Really Teach," I suggest you read the point by point response to this book, by Wilber Lingle. Here's a link to a site with his work, available for free downlowd (or viewable on the website).

Also, if I may:
Some of the mainstream Christian denominations do not make belief in Trinity a 'test of faith.' In other words, the only requirement is that you accept Jesus as your personal savior. The JWs make a big fuss about 'accurate knowledge.' I'm not saying you should not STRIVE for knowledge, but it should not determine who gains salvation, or not.
For a Biblical example, the thief who was cruxified alongside Jesus probably wasn't certain as to JC's nature--truine or otherwise. I'm sure there are better examples, but it certainly comes to mind.
Not to plug a particular denomination, but I know the Disciples of Christ, and probably the United Church of Christ (UCC) believe this way. Moreover, they try to help you have a personal relationship with God through JC...they don't try to act as 'God's mouthpiece,' as JWs appear to do. Not saying they're perfect, but they're definitely not considered cults. I'm thinking that mainstream Methodists and a few others are along these lines as well.

America didn't "save the world" in WWII - they saved themselves along with everybody else.
Uhh..yeah. We only spent $13 billion USD to help rebuild post-war Europe through something called the Marshall Plan.
To be fair, the Russians did put up one helluva good fight against the Nazis. Major losses at Stalingrad.
But, to say the US was somehow just 'in it for ourselves' is just bullshit. We very reluctantly got involved in the first place.

Cross the pond and hang out in Detroit, South Chicago, Baltimore, New Orleans, Compton for a while. Not a movie.
